What you pay for veneers depends on how many teeth you want to change, which type of veneer you choose, and whether your teeth need any care first. Most people treat the teeth that show when they smile, and the price grows with each tooth. A visit with your dentist is the only way to get a real number, because the plan starts with your own teeth and your goals.
What veneers do
Porcelain veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of your teeth. They can cover chips, stains that whitening does not lift, small gaps, and teeth that are slightly out of line or uneven in shape. Because they cover only the front of the tooth, they change how your smile looks without moving your teeth.
Lumineers are a very thin type of porcelain veneer, about as thin as a contact lens. In many cases they need little or no shaping of the tooth first. Our dentists are certified Lumineers dentists and can tell you whether they suit your teeth.
What changes the price
- How many teeth. Some people need one veneer to fix a chipped front tooth. Others want six or eight across the smile line. Each tooth adds to the fee.
- Porcelain veneers or Lumineers. The two are made and placed differently. Your dentist will explain which fits your teeth, your bite and the look you want.
- Work needed first. Cavities, gum problems or old fillings are treated before veneers are placed, so the veneers sit on healthy teeth.
- Your bite. People who grind or clench may need a night guard to protect their new veneers.
- Other options. Sometimes whitening or bonding can reach your goal for less. A good dentist will tell you when that is the case.
Does insurance pay for veneers?
Pure Santa Ana Dentist works with PPO, Indemnity, Medi-Cal, Denti-Cal, Smile California and CalOptima dental plans. Most plans do not pay for treatment done only to change how teeth look, which is usually the reason for veneers. If a tooth is broken or badly damaged, part of the repair may be covered, sometimes with a different treatment such as a crown. The office offers a free insurance eligibility check so you know before you start.
If you have Medi-Cal or Denti-Cal: Medi-Cal does not pay for veneers, whitening or other looks-only treatment. It does cover fillings, root canals and crowns when a tooth needs to be fixed. Your dentist can tell you what is covered for your teeth.
Ways to pay
Because veneers are usually paid out of pocket, many patients use the office’s payment plans, other affordable payment options or 0% financing. You can also plan the work in steps, starting with the teeth that matter most to you. Ask the team at your visit which option fits your budget.
Your first visit
Your first visit is about your goals. Your dentist checks your teeth and gums, takes digital x-rays, and talks through what bothers you about your smile. If veneers are a good fit, you will hear which type is recommended, how many teeth make sense to treat, how long it takes, and the fee, all before any work starts.
